Me And The World Of Gaming

// August 2nd, 2009 // Life's Happenings

Many people associate people who sit on the computer for hours as gamers. Well, not always, but in very many cases. Every now and then I get asked if I play a particular game, or have a copy of another. And in most cases, the answer is a pure NO. Its not that I don’t play games. I do. But they are more of the casual types. I may own the new PSP and the good old PS2. Its quite a joy to download games from the net and simply burn then to DVDs and play. (Oh, Ive modded the PS2 and still not the PSP).

The only game that Ive ever completed is Need For Speed Most Wanted, undoubtedly my most favorite one. I also play a lil bit of Counter Strike Czero/1.6, and the occasional Fifa. But that’s on rather rare occasions. That’s all. No more. I go to the extent of even owning a top of the line rig, albeit only without a graphic card. So no COD4 or Crysis for me. And I don’t even think Ive been missing anything.

But still, I love to try out new stuff. Two months back I got the Wii. I would’ve had the PS3 for a similar price. Also, I have a friend who plays online multi-player with his friends on a PS3 and a 52″ LCD. Hardcore gamer. But, again, since I’m no fan of heavy duty gaming, Wii seemed fun. And, right I was. Today, every single day I play Wii Sports and Mario Kart. Super addictive. I download games, burn them, try them, and play them if I like them. The twilight hack saves me a lot of money. Till date, Ive tried more than 15  different games on the Wii, including the latest COD World At War. Even the NFS Carbon on the Wii is not that impressive. The graphics are awesome on a 46″, but the game-play isn’t. Wii Sports is a combo of Tennis, Bowling, Baseball, Bowling, and Boxing. All 5 are equally addictive. In fact me and my 14 year old brother can go on playing against each other for hours. And about Mario Kart, its still the best Wii game out in the market in terms of sheer sales.

So, putting all other gaming platforms aside, I also have a friend who is trying to get me to buy an ATI Radeon HD 4850 for Rs.6000. That’s a whole 2K less than the market price. Just to entice me into the world of gaming (And of course, he’s associated with ATI/AMD and swears by their products). So lets see. If at all I do give in and explore the other side of the world, I’ll write more.

PS: I’m no Nintendo fan boy. Just that the Wii is fun.
